Arrive at the Gatehouse and be met by your tour guide for the evening. The guide has an exceptional knowledge of the prison particularly the ghostly tales and the spooky experiences that regularly occur. Guided by torchlight you will delve into the ghostly world of spirits – experience the strange silence that fills the grounds and the damp walls carrying only the faintest echo of what’s left behind.
You will be taken into the depths of this historic building and experience the dark side of the prison. You’ll listen in horror as you’re told about the sinister side of jail life – torture, murder and hangings, the last execution was only 60 years ago. Everybody has their own tales to tell and own experiences to relate – what will you discover?

Shrewsbury Prison is the second most haunted jail in the world – come and investigate and see what lurks behind the high prison walls in the dead of night.
One of the most common sightings is that of the ‘Shadow Man’. He doesn’t harm, merely watches and is said to be an ex-officer. His home is A Wing with a particular preference for the “3’s”. You won’t see his face, his silhouette is what appears – thus the title ‘Shadow Man’. Will you see him?
Itinerary
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your tour
- Two Ghost Tours per evening.
- Wear warm clothes and sensible shoes
- Please bring a low-level torch with you
- Due to the nature of these tours minimum age is 12+ years.
- Under 18's must be accompanied by a full paying responsible adult
- Tours last 1 hour 30 minutes
- We regret we are unable to provide wheelchair access.
- Car parking is available opposite the prison
